Image: Psychology graduate students Leigha Rose Waikel and Nate Phillips were recently honored with Emerging Scholar Awards at the 2025 Association for Research in Personality (ARP) Conference, held June 26 to 28 in Evanston, Illinois. The Emerging Scholar Award is presented biennially to recognize exceptionally high-quality work from early-career personality psychologists. Only four scholars received the award this year, making the recognition especially meaningful for both the recipients and the University of Georgia. Eligible nominees must be graduate students or have earned their PhDs within the past five years. Leigha presented her research titled “Associations between Personality and Suicide: A Meta-Analysis,” while Nate shared his work, “Leveraging Personality Science to Understand the Externalizing Spectrum,” during the Emerging Scholars Symposium. Both students conduct their research under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Miller in the Personality Studies Lab. The ARP is an international scientific organization dedicated to advancing the understanding of personality structure, development, and dynamics. Its annual conference brings together researchers from a range of disciplines, including clinical, industrial-organizational, health, developmental, and social psychology, who share a common interest in personality research. Congratulations to Leigha and Nate on this outstanding achievement!
