Summer Undergraduate Research Education Program (SUREP)

The Summer Undergraduate Research Education Program (SUREP) is a free virtual summer education and mentorship program designed to make graduate study in psychology more accessible to all. A goal of SUREP is to provide undergraduate students (and recent graduates) with information about what graduate study in psychology involves, what it takes to get there, and what career options are open with a Ph.D. in psychology. Consistent with the mission of UGA's Office of Academic and Community Engagement, we are committed to a vision of leadership in embracing inclusive excellence and preparing students to be leaders in an increasingly global society. Participating students will have the opportunity to:

· Learn from experts in the field about their current research and how they got there

· Work with current graduate students and faculty to compose graduate application materials

· Learn about how to create research questions and design a research project to test those questions

The SUREP 2026 program will be held between June 29, 2026 and July 17, 2026 (combination of synchronous and asynchronous meetings on weekdays from 5-7 pm Eastern US time). All workshops and seminars will be held in the evenings to accommodate students that have jobs and other obligations during the day. The deadline for applications is May 30th.

Since its launch in 2021, SUREP has served over 500 students from more than 50 different universities. Although the majority of participants attend US universities, each year we have a number of students joining us from universities abroad.

If you have questions you are welcome to contact the program coordinators (sureppsych@uga.edu) or reach out to the program director, Dr. Allison Skinner (allison.skinner@uga.edu).

The 30-hour program includes a variety of presentations and practical skill development sessions. A general outline of the events tentatively scheduled for the 2026 SUREP program is provided below.
