Tony Puente (Ph.D. ’78) and his son, Nick Puente (Ph.D. ’14), took different paths from UGA Psychology to careers in neuropsychology.

Originally from Cuba, Tony came to the U.S. as a child and later chose UGA for the opportunity to combine clinical psychology and biopsychology. He went on to build a career as a clinician, professor, and advocate for psychological care, including serving as president of the American Psychological Association in 2017.

Nick earned his doctorate in clinical psychology at UGA before training at Duke and Johns Hopkins and building a career in academic medicine.

Today, they practice together at the Puente Neuropsychology Institute in Wilmington, North Carolina, providing neuropsychological evaluations and forensic services. They also volunteer at a local free clinic, helping provide care to patients who may otherwise have limited access to services.
