UGA Psychology doctoral candidate Yaw Buabeng is the lead author of a new study examining how blue light affects the eye’s ability to distinguish fine details.

The study found that blue light produced greater light scatter and optical aberrations than other wavelengths tested, making it more difficult for participants to distinguish two points of light. Researchers also found differences based on iris pigmentation, with participants with lighter-colored irises experiencing greater light scatter.

Buabeng, who practiced as an optometrist in Ghana before pursuing his Ph.D. at UGA, combines his background in optometry and psychology to study the optical and neural processes that shape human vision.
